CELEBRITY GOGGLEBOX

NEW FRIDAY / C4 / 9PM / EP 1 of 7 / ENTERTAINMENT

The cheeky banter between Denise Van Outen and partner Eddie Boxshall was a highlight of C4’s Celebrity Gogglebox last year.

So fans will be pleased to hear that the couple are inviting cameras back into their living room for the second series!

Here, Denise, who turns 46 on 27 May, tells TV Times why it’s the perfect gig…

Was it an easy decision to take part again?

Yes, we had so much fun last year that we were delighted to come back! When we watch TV, we do a running commentary, so it’s a show that suits us. I genuinely love spending time with Eddie because he makes me laugh and it’s so nice to do something together like this.

What kind of reaction did you get after the first series?

Lots of people wanted to talk to us about the show, which was a new experience for Eddie. He went shopping in Chelmsford and were followed around in John Lewis by two women. He thought they were store detectives, but they had seen him on the show and wanted a selfie! He was also given free chips at our local chippy, which he was very chuffed about!

Do you and Eddie often argue over the remote control?

We watch a lot of dramas together, but we have our own tastes as well. I like a lot of reality TV, whereas he likes wildlife and history shows. He talks when we’re watching TV, though. I’m always telling him to be quiet because I’m missing things!

Who would you love to see take part on Celebrity Gogglebox? I’m obsessed with Dame Joan Collins. I’d love to see if she wears a onesie and a pair of slippers in the evenings or whether she looks glam all the time.

We loved you as Fox on ITV’S The Masked Singer earlier this year. Was the show fun to do?

It was brilliant and bonkers at the same time! The hardest thing was keeping it a secret. I didn’t tell a soul – not even Eddie and [my 10-year-old daughter] Betsy. Lots of my pals guessed it was me from the way I held myself on the stage, but they had no idea. It was an amazing moment when it was revealed on the show – Betsy got the shock of her life!

I’M ALWAYS TELLING EDDIE TO BE QUIET!

Finally, on a different note, how have you been coping with life during lockdown?

It’s been so tough for everyone and I’ve lost two friends in the last couple of months to COVID-19, so it feels very real in our house. I find it really difficult sitting around, so I’ve also been volunteering for the NHS in Essex. There are 50 of us making scrubs for doctors and nurses, which has been a great experience.
