Yasmeen takes a stand
She pleads not guilty to Geoff’s attempted murder
asmeen may be out of Geoff’s clutches, but so far she has remained under his spell. Even the prospect of a lengthy prison term for attacking him in self-defence hasn’t been enough to get her to open up about his abuse, and she still worries about doing something to ‘upset’ him.
But much to Alya’s relief, progress is made this week, for Yasmeen not only lists some of the things Geoff did to her, but decides to plead not guilty to his attempted murder.
Yasmeen finally starts talking when Alya visits her in prison, ahead of the plea hearing. She
Ytells her granddaughter how, amongst other things, Geoff tricked her into eating her pet chicken Charlotte, and forced her to continually clean the house.
Alya encourages her to see Geoff for the monster he is, but when Yasmeen later calls her, she tells her she’s worried how her husband will react if she doesn’t plead guilty. It’s a stark reminder to Alya that Geoff’s control continues to run deep.
Over at No.4, meanwhile, Geoff and Yasmeen’s relationship continues to be a sore point for Sally and Tim. The pair have different views about what went on next door, and Sally is so unsure of Geoff’s innocence that she tells Tim she wants his father out of their house.
‘Over time, Geoff learns that Sally is having doubts about him,’ says Ian Bartholomew, who plays Geoff. ‘So this causes a massive problem for him concerning Tim, and the possibility that he might start to suspect his dad is not what he appears to be.’
The following day, Yasmeen arrives at court, and Alya’s thrilled when she utters the words ‘not guilty.’ Geoff, of course, is livid, and tells Tim that it’s more important than ever that the Metcalfe family show a united front.
This doesn’t sit well with Sally, and she once again tells Tim that she wants Geoff gone. Tim reluctantly respects his wife’s wishes, and feels guilty as he watches his father pack up his things and move back to No.6. But when Eileen tells him that she also has her doubts about Geoff, he starts to question how well he really knows his dad.
Will Tim, too, see the light?
