Summer under strain

She struggles with her guilt and the events of last week, and goes AWOL...

-

When Summer witnessed Corey and Eli making vile jibes about Nina last week, the unsettled schoolgirl headed home, and wasn’t privy to the horrors that later unfolded canal-side.

Learning of the attack on Roy’s niece and her boyfriend Seb, the teen is filled with guilt and regret, and when it all gets too much, she goes AWOL.

At the start of the week, Summer opens up to Todd, explaining that she was with her friends at the canal on the night in question, but left before the situation turned violent.

It takes a lot to shock Eileen’s youngest, but Billy is a different kettle of fish. He’s staggered to learn that his daughter went joyriding with Corey and his mates in a stolen car, and insists she tell the police all she knows.

As the investigation continues and word spreads across Weatherfield, Summer starts to struggle at school, and Amy reports back to Paul that her pal was taunted by one of their classmates and ran off upset.

The trainee builder finds the teen alone in her thoughts in Victoria Garden (where else?). As he reaches out, a despondent Summer explains that she feels partly to blame for Seb and Nina’s ordeal, because she could have insisted that Kelly leave when she did, but instead she left her with Corey and co, and did nothing to stop the sinister events spiralling out of control.

Kindly Paul insists that none of what happened was her fault. But Summer remains deeply troubled, and the following day, Billy is alarmed to find out that she hasn’t turned up for school.

Has the teen run away?
