Melanie Hill says she hopes her character Cathy’s recent storyline, in which she was trolled after posting cruel comments online about Steve and Tracy, will make people realise that this kind of thing could happen to anyone.

‘This bullying online is just horrific,’ says Melanie, 59. ‘It is because people are anonymous – they wouldn’t say that to someone’s face but they can write it in a comment.

‘Corrie is good at getting conversations started in living rooms, and hopefully viewers can see that if Cathy could get caught up in something like this, then anyone could, and it might get people thinking about what they post.’
