She’s nicked by the cops for the attack on Nina and Seb
Shock waves reverberate around the cobbles this week following the brutal attack on Nina and Seb. As Abi pushes Nina for information, Weatherfield Police crack on with their own investigation, and it’s not long before they arrest Kelly. Is ringleader Corey going to get off scot-free?
Asha’s ne’er-dowell boyfriend tries to cover his tracks and instructs Asha to lie to the cops that he was with her, at their flat, when the attack took place, and make sure Amy – who Asha met up with on the night of the crime - keeps her trap shut.
As Asha visits her pal, Amy urges her not to protect the scheming scally, leaving the schoolgirl with a big decision to make...
Kelly, meanwhile, is terrified when the police cart her off to the nick, and refuses to answer their questions.
For foster parents Imran and Toyah, a difficult road lies ahead.
‘They’re initially a united front,’ reveals Charlie de Melo, who plays Imran, ‘but as details of the attack become more apparent, it causes a fracture in their relationship.
‘Imran feels they must support Kelly regardless, but Toyah’s stance is a bit more self-protecting.
She’s like, “To be supportive of a child is one thing, but to support a violent person goes beyond what we’ve signed up for.”’
The following day, Kelly suggests to Corey that they tell the truth. He sends her packing but is persuaded by his dad Stef to make a statement.
Toyah and Imran, meanwhile, urge Kelly to speak up about what she knows, but just as they’re making headway, the teen’s mum, Laura, arrives.
‘She has an inbuilt suspicion of the police,’ adds Charlie, ‘and says Kelly owes them nothing.’
Laura eventually agrees to Kelly being interviewed, if solicitor Imran is present. Soon after, the police tell Abi they’ve charged someone, but any solace for the struggling mum is shattered when she learns that Nina’s appearance was the trigger for the assault. Have the cops got the right culprit? And as Laura says she wants Kelly back with her, how will Toyah and Imran respond?
