Aaron is walloped by Pollard during his valiant effort to return Brenda’s brooch

Hotten General has yet another Emmerdale resident to treat this week. Aaron Dingle is the patient, after being violently attacked by Eric Pollard. Yes, Eric Pollard. What next? Millie Tate commits armed robbery?

To be fair to the gangster grandad, it’s all one big misunderstanding relating to Brenda’s brooch. The precious piece of jewellery was stolen by Mack last week, but Brenda is blaming Faith for the crime.

Unwilling to let his grandma become the village pariah, Aaron urges Mack to give it back. When the snide Scot refuses, Aaron steals the item and breaks into Pollard’s Barn to return it.

‘He doesn’t realise that Pollard is upstairs,’ reveals Danny Miller, who plays Aaron. ‘While trying to put it back, he knocks off an object that makes a clatter and alerts Pollard to the fact that someone’s in the house.

‘Aaron hides behind the sofa but when Pollard says he’s armed, Aaron decides to run for it. Pollard just sees the back of Aaron, and cracks him with a cricket bat. It’s only as he turns Aaron over that Pollard realises it’s him.’

A panicked Pollard calls an ambulance, and Aaron is taken to hospital, where he’s tested for possible kidney damage.

Mack pays him a visit but he hasn’t come bearing grapes and magazines – he wants his ‘business acquaintance’ to keep his trap shut about his involvement in the theft.

‘Between them, Aaron and Mack formulate a story to make sense as to why Aaron was in Pollard’s Barn,’ adds Danny, ‘which hopefully will mean Aaron won’t have to grass Mack up.’ Pollard is bemused to later see that the missing brooch has found its way home. Chatting to David, the penny drops that Aaron was returning the jewellery, but he still wrongly reckons Faith was the thief, and that Aaron was bringing it back on her behalf.

Faith’s distraught as her ‘good name’ continues to be sullied. She’s not the type to go pinching people’s precious possessions. Unless that precious possession is a hearse, of course.

As for Pollard, he’s regretting his actions when the police pitch up and arrest him for the assault.

Is the pensioner off to prison?
