In this series, it’s a subterranean system of trains on which slave Cora (Thuso Mbedu) travels after escaping from a Georgia plantation with a bounty hunter (Joel Edgerton) in hot pursuit. The story (based on Colson Whitehead’s novel) is brought to TV by Barry Jenkins and begins with an unflinching look at the brutal treatment endured by slaves, before Cora’s journey takes a more fantastical turn.
