Time to say goodbye…

Roy decides to leave the cobbles as he struggles with the lies he’s told…

-

Say it ain’t so, Corrie! Twenty-six years after he first arrived on the cobbles, the legendary Roy Cropper decides this week that he must bid farewell and start afresh... in South America, of all places!

But can his loved ones talk him out of it, or will our Roy be swapping his trademark anorak for a beige poncho?

The cafe owner has long viewed Weatherfield as his safe space, but the events that unfolded during Debbie’s ‘Horror-nation Street’ event have left him discombobulated. He broke his own moral code by lying to the police and denying the existence of Abi’s gun – with which she was planning to shoot Corey – and he’s further troubled this week when DS Abney turns up to ask him more questions.

The cops, it transpires, have discovered that the shooter Harvey used to kill Natasha last month was used in a raid by Abi’s ex, Tez. Roy’s fears are confirmed – it was, indeed, Abi’s gun that led to an innocent woman losing her life and poor Sam having to grow up without his mum. Roy lies yet again to protect his neighbour, and makes it clear to Abi that he’s not happy about the position she has put him in. He then tells all to Nina, and insists they must both accept some responsibility for Natasha’s demise.

‘He is distraught about what happened with

Natasha, and

Nina thinks,

“It’s my fault; everything is my fault,”’ says Mollie Gallagher, AKA Nina.

Abi’s relieved when Abney later reveals that Tez has been arrested but has said he ‘can’t remember’ who he sold the gun to.

Roy, however, remains in turmoil, and instructs Imran to sign over the flat and cafe to Nina, while also asking Abi to sell the ‘woody’ (or Morris Minor Traveller, if you prefer) for him.

Nina panics when she finds out, and tells Abi that she fears her struggling uncle is planning to kill himself. Roy, in fact, has another plan in mind.

‘He says he is leaving,’ adds Mollie. ‘Nina is absolutely gutted, and tries to convince him to stay.’

But Roy isn’t for turning. He’s caught up in a web of deceit, and believes that moving on is the right thing to do.

Is he gone for good?

NINA IS ABSOLUTELY GUTTED
