I’m leaving!

Tracy is offered a new job in Nottingham

-

Awoman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, one wise soul once claimed, and that certainly seems to be the case for Tracy Metcalfe, who had high hopes for her life with Nate, only to realise he’s just another useless fella she can do without.

As an exciting job opportunity comes her way, she decides it’s time to bid farewell to the village and carve out a new future for her and baby Frankie.

Nate’s hankering for a reunion, so is thrilled when Tracy earlier asks him to look after their daughter while she speaks at a mental-health organisation’s seminar on postnatal depression.

As Nate skips off, sure that it’s a sign she’s put his fling with Fiona behind her, Tracy throws herself into her speech, and impresses so much that she’s asked to work for the group... in Nottingham.

‘Tracy’s first instinct is that she’s not experienced enough for the role and not medically trained,’ explains Amy Walsh, who plays her.

‘But then she talks to Charity, who really believes in her and tells her to go for it. Charity’s like, “What are you going to do? Wait around to get back with the man who cheated on you?”’

Tracy later breaks the news to Nate that she’s leaving the village. He’s not happy, and tries to undermine his ex by suggesting that she won’t cope as a single mum in a new city.

‘He makes her think she’s not strong enough,’ adds Amy, ‘and it comes to a point where she goes, “What was I thinking?”’

But as Nate realises he has crushed Tracy’s dreams, will he do the decent thing and accept that the woman he betrayed deserves a fresh start?
