Jaime Winstone memorably played the late Barbara Windsor in BBC1’S 2017 biopic Babs, and she steps into her shoes again as a young version of Barbara’s famous role, Peggy Mitchell, for a special flashback episode of Eastenders this autumn.

Set in 1979, it explores a dark chapter of the Mitchells’ past that sheds light on a dilemma faced by Phil in the present day.

‘This has cemented my love and admiration for Barbara as I’ve got to bookend my journey by playing Peggy,’ smiles Jaime, 37. ‘I hope I’ve done her justice!’
