Fiftysomething divorcée Gloria hits the retro dance floors in Los Angeles – will she find a new love there? Arnold (John Turturro), a former military officer seems promising, but he also has an awful lot of emotional baggage… As Gloria, Julianne Moore is on fantastic form and Chilean director Sebastián Lelio’s Hollywood remake of his own earlier film is a classy affair with plenty of compassion for its heroine. And, not least, there are some great 1970s and 1980s disco anthems – Gloria Gaynor’s Never Can Say Goodbye, anyone? – and power ballads along the way. ★★★★ JB
