A Farm Through Time
FACTUAL 9PM, CHANNEL 5
Historian Ruth Goodman takes farming brothers Rob and Dave Nicholson on a journey back in time to discover what farming was like during World War Two. Britain faced a potential food crisis as German U-boats sank hundreds of merchant ships and it was up to farmers to make sure Britain wouldn’t be starved into submission – that meant working all hours to plough an extra two million acres in a year. Rob and Dave also experience the hardship of rationing, spend a night in an air-raid shelter and learn how the Women’s Land Army became a crucial part of the war effort. ★★★ HD
