TRAGIC DEATH

-

On 31 August 1997, the world woke up to the terrible news that Diana, who was just 36, had died in a car crash in Paris, along with Dodi Fayed.

There was an immediate outpouring of public grief, with the entrances to Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace becoming seas of floral tributes laid my members of the public, while thousands lined the streets for Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey on 6 September. Following the service, her coffin was taken to the family estate in Althorp, where Diana was buried on an island in the centre of an ornamental lake.

But it was the heartbreaking image of Prince William, 15, and Prince Harry, then just 12, as they walked solemnly behind their mother’s casket that brought home the fact that while the world had lost the ‘People’s Princess’, two boys had lost a mother.
