COMEDY It’s 1906 and missionary Michael Palin comes back from Africa and gets a new assignment: to help the ‘fallen women’ of London. Palin taking his job to bed with him is the gist of the humour, but that isn’t as funny as the other characters. Maggie Smith, as the aristocratic lady who takes a fancy to Palin, Trevor Howard as her blimpish husband and, especially, Michael Hordern as their butler are on top form.
