Alex Scott: The Future of Women’s Football

-

DOCUMENTARY BBC IPLAYER

This first aired last month ahead of the Women’s Euros, but if you missed it, catch up on iplayer. Former England player Alex Scott reports on the status of women’s football, now one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, speaking to Lionesses captain Leah Williamson among others. Alex points out the insulting hashtag #whocares used by online trolls about women’s football, but after attending a game in Barcelona with an attendance of 91,000, her response is that obviously ‘plenty’ care. This was before a record 87,192 people at Wembley saw the Lionesses beat Germany in the Euros final, along with the 17.5m people at home! Let’s hope that has a real and lasting legacy for the game. ★★★★
