Jane Hazlegrove (far right) has revealed how she came up with the idea for her latest storyline – in which her character, Bernie, has discovered she has a ‘double’ in wealthy Fern – after she and actor Gabrielle Glaister kept getting mistaken for one another.

‘I mentioned this idea to [Corrie writer] Jonathan Harvey a while ago,’ says Jane, 54. ‘Gabby and I are constantly mistaken for each other. We have often laughed about it, but then I thought it might be fun to have her as Bernie’s secret twin or a doppelganger.

‘I was so chuffed when they told me they had devised this storyline and that Gabby was on board.’
