In tonight’s opening episode of the last-ever (sob!) series, the doc’s resignation as Portwenn’s GP still stands. He’s now a stay-at-home dad to son James Henry and baby daughter Mary Elizabeth and whiles away the hours fixing clocks, reading medical journals and rearranging the cutlery drawer… Yet natural order will be restored! Doc devotee Mrs Tishell (Selina Cadell) launches a campaign to get him reinstated. But it’s the appearance of poorly Abigail (Fay Ripley) that forces his return to medicine. We won’t spoil it, but before the credits roll, everything clicks back into place with a satisfying snap. A triumphant return. ★★★★★ ER
