FROZEN LANDS

-

EPISODE FIVE

Life in the chilly northern forests and tundra is a struggle, but the penultimate episode highlights hardy animals, including, in

Canada, an Arctic fox who unearths lemmings from beneath the ground, and baby painted turtles, who are frozen until they thaw out in the spring.

Meanwhile, in Alaska, a nest of snowy owl chicks is thriving, but the caribou’s world is becoming more dangerous.

‘In Canada, we found this large pack of wolves who constantly search through the frozen wasteland for bison,’ says Jane Atkins, who produced the fifth episode.

‘We also see Amur leopards – which are the rarest big cats on Earth – in Russia, and we got footage showing them using the same trails and network of paths as the Siberian tiger.’
