Steven Spielberg’s wham-bam rollercoaster ride is perfect for a Saturday-night movie. Set in a near future (dystopian, naturally), people seek refuge from the miserable real world in the Oasis, a virtual universe created by Mark Rylance’s tech wizard. Tye Sheridan is Wade, the kid seeking three special keys hidden by Rylance before he died, which would bestow ownership of the Oasis on the finder. Helped by Olivia Cooke, Sheridan’s crazy race around a pop cultureinfused virtual world is filled with fizzing, high-energy scenes seemingly fuelled by an adrenaline shot. ★★★★ NP
