Writer-director pair The Daniels (Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) have concocted a glorious fable about what ifs with a stellar performance by Michelle Yeoh at its core. Chinese-american Evelyn (Yeoh) runs a launderette with her caring, put-upon husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) when a fraught visit to the tax office sets off an insane series of events in which Evelyn must connect with other parts of herself from a multitude of multiverses in order to save existence itself. It’s a wild, often rude and crude ride that’s outlandish and often hysterical. Most importantly, though, is this movie’s heart, which pumps loud and proud to the poignant finale.
