TRAVELOGUE 9PM, BBC2, IPLAYER (BOX SET)

The second leg of Simon’s journey takes him to Brazil and a visit to the Waiãpi tribe, who live deep in the Amazon rainforest. Known as the ‘guardians of the forest’, the Waiãpi are a community at war with the big industries that are encroaching on their land and way of life. After a 20-month break due to lockdown, Simon heads to the city of Manaus and meets a remarkable nurse who single-handedly saved her community from the havoc caused by Covid. He then heads to Rio de Janeiro to discover what life is really like in the favelas. Finally, he meets a scientist who will stop at nothing to save a primate called the golden lion tamarin. JL
