Brit actors Daniel Kaluuya (Slim) and Jodie Turner-smith (Queen) star in this engaging crime drama released in 2019. They’ve just been on a dull first date when they’re pulled over by a white police officer who is needlessly aggressive with the Black couple, and a violent outcome results in Queen and Slim becoming outlaw fugitives. Their road trip in a vintage turquoise Pontiac Catalina sees a love story unfold, but there’s also righteous anger burning through what is a timely film for the Black Lives Matter era. ★★★★ JB
