Cobbles newcomer Channique Sterling-brown reveals she has a special connection to her character, legal eagle Dee-dee Bailey, which proves it really was perfect casting.

‘Originally, I wasn’t planning to go to drama school, I was supposed to train in law,’ explains Channique.

‘I had a place at law school and everything, but I pulled out at the last minute and decided to pursue drama.

‘The people running the law course said to me, “Come back when you’ve worked all that acting out of your system!” and I thought, “I’ll show you!”

‘And now, here I am playing a solicitor on one of the biggest soaps in the country!’
