SCI-FI ACTION This terrific sci-fi stars Tom Cruise as a PR expert who becomes an unwilling soldier and ends up in a time loop, reliving the same day of combat against an extraterrestrial race again and again. As Cruise’s clumsy wimp gradually hones his fighting skills, he teams up with Emily Blunt’s badass veteran warrior. The darkly comic early scenes are the best, but Cruise is a winner all the way, whether as a gung-ho hero or the butt of the joke. Dir: Doug Liman 2014, 12
