On the final leg of his journey, travelling through Chile and Argentina, Simon discovers fast fashion’s ‘dirty secret’ – a vast area of discarded clothes in landfill on the edge of the Atacama Desert. In Buenos Aires, he sees the effects of the cost-of-living crisis as many Argentinians are relying on food banks and soup kitchens, while in Patagonia, he highlights the conflict between the indigenous Mapuche people and forestry companies. Finally, at Sea Lions’ Island in the Beagle Channel, Simon learns that plans for salmon farms have been rejected in a bid to protect the sea lions. ‘There is hope,’ he concludes, and it’s a positive end to another fascinating series. ★★★★ JP
