MARRY ME, Janine!

Mick proposes to his pregnant girlfriend, but is it really what he wants?

- WITH SOAPS EDITOR ALISON SLADE

Blimey, Mick Carter is a glutton for punishment. Having shacked up with Janine and got her up the duff, this week he decides to go the whole hog by proposing.

It can only be a matter of time before that spell in prison for Stuart Highway’s attempted murder suddenly doesn’t seem that bad.

Mick and Janine are already engaged when he gets down on one knee; the pair having agreed to take the next step while on holiday together. Janine was only too happy to share her ‘good news’ with Linda on their return last week, and as Linda tries to get her head around it, she lets slip to Shirley about the big development.

Naturally, Shirl has a few words to say, and they’re not ‘I must buy them a card.’ As she huffs and puffs, Linda, meanwhile, notices that Mick’s expression hardly screams ‘loved up.’ Sensing all’s not well, she pulls him to one side and gives him food for thought.

The landlord is clearly at a crossroads. But just as it seems he might take the turn that leads him back to ‘L’, he proposes to Janine properly in front of her daughter Scarlett. ‘Janine’s on top of the world,’ says Charlie Brooks, who plays the scheming pint-puller.

‘She’s got her man, she’s in The Vic, and she’s got her family. It’s everything she’s ever wanted.’

Sharon has huge sympathy for devastated Linda and, deciding that the best tonic for her pal is a new man, she sets her up on a blind date.

Linda’s somewhat terrified but decides to go for it… only for the fella to be a no-show. Spotting her on her lonesome, Alfie steps in and buys her a drink. Mick isn’t best pleased and has a pop at him, then later gives Alfie his marching orders from The Vic. Hmm, is he secretly jealous of the pair’s closeness?

Later catching up with Alfie, Mick apologises for having to let him go, and is rattled when the cockney charmer asks if Janine really is the woman he loves.

But will Mick heed Alfie’s words or make another grand gesture to prove a point?
