This award-winning drama is a solid old-school biopic telling the story of Bert Trautmann, the Manchester City goalkeeper whose name has gone down in footballing history because he carried on playing in the 1956 FA Cup final even though he had a broken neck. In this German and UK co-production, David Kross (War Horse and The Reader) shines as Bert, who only a few years before had been a German prisoner of war, and who initially struggles to win over hostile fans in post-war Britain. ★★★★ JP
