SAS Rogue Heroes
DRAMA 9PM, BBC1, IPLAYER (BOX SET)
Alfie Allen has clearly enjoyed playing the stereotypically stiff-upper-lipped Lieutenant Jock Lewes in recent weeks, but he gives us a glimpse of the soldier’s softer side tonight. This week’s look at Jock’s life back home with sweetheart Mirren (Isobel Laidler) comes as a welcome relief from the blood and bullets, but it also demonstrates another string to writer Steven Knight’s bow. However, with the story moving into December 1941 and each mission coming with more peril as the Germans become wise to the SAS’ night-time raids, these cherished memories are more poignant than ever for us and Jock. ★★★★ SMA
