QATAR 2022: THE KEY FACTS

After the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday 20 November and three games on Monday 21 November, there will be four fixtures every day from Tuesday 22 November to Friday 2 December. Kick-off times will be 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm GMT.

There are 32 teams competing in the tournament, split into eight groups of four at the starting whistle.

Home nations England and Wales will both be in action on Monday 21 November. England will be taking on Iran in Group B at 1pm (BBC1), while Wales will face the USA in the same group at 7pm (ITV & S4C).

Wales’ second fixture is Friday 25 November when they play Iran at 10am (BBC1 & S4C), while England face the USA later that day at 7pm (ITV). The home nations conclude their Group B campaigns against each other on Tuesday 29 November at 7pm (BBC1 & S4C) in a fixture that could be crucial for both teams.

The top two teams from each of the eight groups will progress to the round-of-16, which begins on Saturday 3 December.

The quarter-finals will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 December.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 December.

The final will kick off at the Lusail Stadium at 3pm on Sunday 18 December, and will air on BBC1 and ITV.
