ROSIE MOLLOY GIVES UP EVERYTHING

-

OCOMEDY

ver the past decade, Sheridan Smith has garnered much praise and acclaim for her powerful performances in factual dramas such as Mrs Biggs, Cilla, and

Four Lives. But the Baftawinning actor first made her name playing it for laughs as spirited Janet in noughties sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps – and she’s thrilled to now be returning to her comedic roots.

Reuniting with Two Pints… creator Susan Nickson,

Sheridan takes on the titular role in Sky Comedy’s new six-part series Rosie Molloy Gives up Everything.

Rosie has a top job in an accountancy firm but her personal life is a mess because of her numerous addictions, which include alcohol, cigarettes, sugar and shopping.

After an embarrassing incident, however, she decides to change her ways, especially as her beloved dad, Conall (Father Ted’s Ardal O’hanlon), is seriously ill. But Rosie soon discovers that it’s easier said than done as she’s led back into the path of temptation.

Here, Sheridan, 41, tells us more about the new show…

What is your take on Rosie?

She’s wild, chaotic and a lot of fun! She is one of the funniest characters I’ve ever played. Rosie is single, she’s got a great family, and is a career girl who has just been promoted. She seems to have it all, but, at the same time, she doesn’t.

She’s a complex character, because she is suffering from the illness of addiction. She’s got a huge heart, though. Everybody will know a Rosie in real life or have something in common with her. She is flawed yet lovable.

How do her addictions affect her?

Rosie’s lived through the wild times of ladette culture but is now in the next stage of her life and perhaps she has not admitted to herself that she’s not left these vices behind.

She alludes to the fact that she has been through a lot in her past and it’s this that has made her an addict. But she has become ill without realising it and she’s manipulative to those around her – but not in a devious way.

Then a big life-changing event happens that makes her re-evaluate and decide to try to give up everything.

Will viewers root for Rosie?
