One of the film’s most-important locations is Geppetto’s workshop, where he makes Pinocchio.

‘It’s the set that’s most based in reality,’ says production designer Curt Enderle. ‘We did a lot of photo referencing to make sure that it felt real for the time and place of rural Italy.’

When it came to creating the sprawling carnival run by baddie Count Volpe, a particular look was called for. ‘Volpe’s carnival is not a carnival at the height of its game,’ explains Curt. ‘We wanted there to be obvious wear and tear and dirt – things are not in very good repair.’
