With a 25th anniversary under their belt, Bardo Pond have hit that particularly sweet spot that only a few groups of their vintage reach: telepathic communion via musicmaking. While it’s true their modus operandi doesn’t really change all that much – deep funnels of psychedelic drone-rock, with guitars torn and frayed, and a rhythm section that crawls through tar – Volume 8 feels a particularly condensed and heightened take on the Bardo Pond group-mind, from the cavernous crater-space of “Flayed Wish” to the elevated waves of scuzz, layered almost cinematically, on the epic “And i Will”. it’s often breathtaking.
