LILLY HIATT

Trinity Lane 8/10

- Tough-talking therapy with a country twang TERRY STAUNTON

In addition to an innate knack for churning out hard country humdingers, Lilly Hiatt also inherited her famous father John’s hard-drinking habits. Consequently, her third album is partially a recovery journal, several songs addressing the crossroads at which she found herself. The spirit of Lucinda Williams hovers over “The Night David Bowie Died”, in which shocking real-world news triggers a moment of clarity, and the homespun waltz of “Different, I Guess” ponders lost love and uncertain futures. Newfound sobriety has sharpened Lilly’s focus since her previous release, as does the backing of Dad’s touring band and the unfussy production by Shovels & Rope’s Michael Trent.
