No-nonsense psychedelic punkrock glam boogie

The singer-guitarist of this Lancaster-based lo-fi psychedelic punk duo, Holly Ross, has suggested that their fifth album sounds “like a chip shop on fire”. It’s not a precise analogy. With Mercury Rev/Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann poking psychedelic liquorice in the fluffy sherbet of their sound, Ross and drummer David Blackwell are more like an ice-cream van sinking in marshmallow (on “Big Sea”), Motörhead on the dodgems (“Witchcraft”), or PJ Harvey fronting the Glitterband (“Dickhead”). Exhilarating and trashy by turn, they close with the splenetic “Would You Fuck” – more of a statement than a question.
