The follow-up to landmark debut Rattlesnakes is cut at the duo’s own Westside Studios in west London. Unloved by the band, singles “Lost Weekend”, “Cut Me Down” and “Brand New Friend” have endured LANGER: We built Westside in 1985. We’d worked at the Power Station in New York, and though we couldn’t afford quite the same quality of finish, we wanted something similar. WINSTANLEY: It was a genuine band vibe, but they were like kids compared to Elvis’ lot. The Attractions had been around the block, while the Commotions were all like university kids. Really nice, intelligent people. LANGER: They were all into golf, so Alan got on with them! There was a pressure to follow Rattlesnakes, which was unfollowable, really. With “Lost Weekend”, they were just playing a riff, and I said, “Right, we’ll fucking have that, it sounds like ‘The Passenger’. That’ll be a hit!” And Lloyd hadn’t even put a word or a melody to it yet!
