Milligan’s first Q series pre-dated the Pythons’ TV debut by six months, and the cover of this five-disc set boasts testimonials from Cleese and Palin as to its influence. Yet while genuinely groundbreaking and anarchic, many of the sketches haven’t aged well – Spike’s fondness for blackface and the Pakistani Daleks routine understandably so. Still, the morally dubious and politically incorrect are ultimately outweighed by examples of wild, untamed comic inventiveness. Extras: None.
