The cellar door was one of a number of Washington dc venues into which Jack Boyle sank the winnings from a big poker game. He opened the tiny club, then known as the Shadows, in 1963. it yielded several important in-concert albums, not least Miles davis’ Live-Evil and neil Young’s Live At The Cellar Door, both recorded in 1970. Boyle later ran cellar door Production­s, a hugely successful promotions business.
