CURLY SECKLER

Bluegrass musician (1919–2017)

-

curly Seckler was already a hit around the Southern states with all-brother group The Trail riders when charlie Monroe enlisted him for the Kentucky Partners in 1939. But Seckler’s major break arrived 10 years later, when he joined Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs’ Foggy Mountain Boys as tenor singer and mandolin player. He remained with the bluegrass legends until 1962, honing his distinctive ‘chop’ rhythms, before going on to front nashville grass. ROB HUGHES
