Producer rick Hall, whose death was announced at the time of going to press, helped shape the course of American music as founder of FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. There he presided over recordings by Wilson Pickett, Etta James, irma Thomas, dan Penn, candi Staton and many more, as well as guiding the careers of Aretha Franklin, duane Allman and otis redding. A full tribute will appear in next month’s issue.
