Easter 1978

I love it when an artist is able to be successful commercially without giving up anything that makes them unique. It doesn’t happen that often. Easter is a cool record for that reason – it opened the world up to Patti Smith and hopefully opened a lot of minds as well. I was raised Catholic, so a lot of the religious themes throughout this record speak to me. Maybe that’s why I wanted to pick this one, more than just because it was the first Patti record I owned. She’s a very smart woman and a great performer, and she’s a great interpreter of songs too.
