Mystery girl 1989

My grandmother gave this to me on cassette – she was a fan. I only knew “Oh, Pretty Woman” and maybe a couple of other hits, but I fell in love with this album. Wore that cassette out! I still love it, I love Jeff Lynne’s production and everything he was doing at that time with Tom Petty and The Travelin’ Wilburys. But Mystery Girl is my favourite of that era of Jeff Lynne records. I didn’t realise at the time how old Roy was, or how close to death he was, but you can’t tell. He pretty much sounds the same as he ever did. The guy’s like an opera singer, just a beautiful voice.
