Bryter Layter 1970

-

I must have been starting high school when I heard this. When you hear about Nick Drake from someone, they always tell you about Pink Moon. But Bryter Layter expanded my world as a guitar player. That’s when I started using open tunings. I liked “Fly”, so I learned that song in the tuning he uses, open C, and that’s the tuning I have for half my guitars to this day. This is the first record I owned that had jazzy, almost adult contemporary flourishes on it, which is music that maybe didn’t appeal to me at the time – but it worked as a stepping stone for me.
