Pre Strike Sweep IN THE RED 6/10 Punk attitude and metal-loving guitar solos for Ty Segall spin-off

It can be tough keeping track of Ty Segall’s side bands, but GØGGS are the ones who sound as if they have been overdosing on snakebite, Oi! and NWOBHM. Their second album has Chris Shaw of Ex-Cult on vocals, Charlie Moothart, this time on drums, and Segall himself delivering some guitar heroics. As with the band’s debut, there’s a fair amount of Fugazi worship on display with tracks like the churning punk of “Ruptured Line”, but the album really flies when the metal influences come to the fore – as on the brutal title track or the crushing “Vanity”.
