With its unashamedly melodic bent, krautrock veteran and serial collaborator Hans-Joachim Roedelius’s second effort with Christoph H Mueller picks up seamlessly from their 2015 debut. Admittedly, “Monkey Talk”, which echoes their first volume’s opening ping-pong effects, is unusually energetic, but the quieter tracks – “Daumenwalzer”, “Okapi” – are more discreetly compelling. “Ich Du Wir” could be a bell-bottomed Underworld, while “Fractured Being”, with its breathy vocals, finds Roedelius’s oddly innocuous soundscapes underpinned by suitably understated dub bass.
