Wakelines XTRA MILE 7/10 Colin McIntyre teams up with producer Bernard Butler

Over seven albums, Colin McIntyre has strayed far from his wind-battered Hebridean roots to become a globallyminded musician and award-winning novelist. However, Wakelines sees him (lyrically) regressing back to his childhood in Mull, but doing so in the company of producer Bernard Butler. Butler performs the same job that Trevor Horn did with Belle & Sebastian – adding a widescreen pop ambition to McIntyre’s flinty personal tales. “14-Year-Old Child” is a lovely coming-of-age ballad; “Little Bird” is a Celtic soul waltz arranged for harp and strings; while “New Day Dawning” is a lovelorn reverie that switches from Scottish beach to the London Underground.
