SWEARIN’

Fall Into The Sun MERGE 6/10 ’90s-indebted indie rock prevails on third LP from Philly trio

After breaking up in 2015, Swearin’’s blend of fuzzy guitars and sugary melodies looked set never to appear on a third album. however, after reconvening, the group have produced an lP that continues their tradition of colliding crunchy guitars with sprightly pop hooks. opener “Big Change” is one of the most infectious moments of the album, with Allison Crutchfield’s vocals glistening above the grungy rhythmic chug, while “grow Into A ghost” hammers along with gusto. The record plods along nicely but often drifts into forgetful or nostalgic territory, with the fuzzedup growl of the guitars recalling the bygone mid-’90s indie-rock boom.
