THE US FESTIVAL: 1982 THE US GENERATION
mVd 8/10 the inside story of the ‘80s wannabe Woodstock
the star-crossed Californian fantasy of apple Computers’ cofounder Steve Wozniak, and co-promoted by Bill graham, the socially conscious US Festival took place in San Bernardino across Labour Day weekend, 1982. the cast list was expensively assembled (Fleetwood Mac, the Police, the Cars, talking heads, the Dead, the ramones, the B-52s) and so was the set: Wozniak shelled out for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art arena. that the enterprise lost oodles is a footnote; glenn aveni’s feature-length doc pieces the dream together. in Wozniak’s words: “i paid to see a million smiles.” Extras: none.
