the star-crossed California­n fantasy of apple Computers’ cofounder Steve Wozniak, and co-promoted by Bill graham, the socially conscious US Festival took place in San Bernardino across Labour Day weekend, 1982. the cast list was expensivel­y assembled (Fleetwood Mac, the Police, the Cars, talking heads, the Dead, the ramones, the B-52s) and so was the set: Wozniak shelled out for the constructi­on of a new, state-of-the-art arena. that the enterprise lost oodles is a footnote; glenn aveni’s feature-length doc pieces the dream together. in Wozniak’s words: “i paid to see a million smiles.” Extras: none.
