Lech Kowalski’s documentary is often billed as capturing the early days of punk. in fact, it captures the profoundly depressing death of punk’s first wave – the Pistols’ US tour; Sid and nancy’s “bed interview”, in which Sid keeps nodding out. Most telling of all is the figure of terry – a council-estate punk – whose band terry and the idiots play one awful show in a pub, embodying all the witlessness that punk would come to embody. appalling and compelling in equal measure.
