PAT LONG
Music journalist (1977–2018)
NME’s story is every bit as dramatic as many of the rock stars it covered, as evidenced by Pat Long’s definitive tome, The History Of The NME: High Times And Low Lives At The World’s Most Famous Magazine. an NME staffer from 2002–08 and contributor to Uncut, he’d previously worked at Select, and latterly The Times. Long, who has died of cancer after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012, also played bass in turn-of-the-millennium garage-rock band the action time and later ran the Heron recordings label, as well as London clubs in the Pines and Cosmic slop.
