MAX RICHTER
WHITE BOY RICK OST 8/10
Prolific composer indulges his electronic side
Though it closes with “I Got Everything I Need In Life”, which wallows in his trademark arpeggios and descending chords – also evident on “Nonviolent Offender” – Richter’s score for Yann Demange’s ’80s crack drama is a reminder of his early passion for electronica. Its nature, though, is ominous, whether in the quietly abrasive feedback bleeding into “What’s My Take” or via “Big Man Now”’s urgent, throbbing synths, echoed in “Get On The Ground”, to which the sound of what could be a bone saw adds an unsettling rhythmic metre. “Baby Keisha”’s string arrangements provide welcome, if brief, respite.
